May 2022 Letter
There is a saying that “If you fail to plan then you plan to fail”. For so much of my life, I haven’t been much of a planner. I would have a general thought for the day and then wing it. Believe it or not, for the first 10 years I owned Golden Standard, I didn’t even keep a calendar or take regular notes. Looking back on it now it seems very silly, but I didn’t know any better at the time. If only I would have known how much pain could have been avoided. As the company grew along with all my responsibilities I had no choice but to change. I had to create margin and structure in my day and my number one motivation was creating meaningful time with the ones that I love the most.
One of the most critical things I’m working on right now is my morning routine. It’s amazing the difference in my day when I wake up a little earlier to review my schedule, plan my day, journal my thoughts, and spend a little time quieting my mind and connecting with God. What this time allows me to do is reflect on my life while also dreaming about the future and making the most of my time. Whether you manage your home, juggle responsibilities with your family, or maximize your time so that you are efficient and effective in your work, I encourage you to carve out time for yourself to plan. Even a few minutes a day can make a huge difference.
