I wanted to take some time this month and honor all of the parents represented within Golden Standard. Last month we appreciated all the Moms and in a few weeks, we get to celebrate Fathers Day. Growing up in a single-parent home, I’ve experienced firsthand just how impactful having a loving and committed parent can be. Now that I’m a dad I’m realizing that my family is ultimately my greatest legacy. I recently read a story that further inspired this thought. In the story, the author accounts for the last minutes with his dying father. He describes his dad and the life he lived, the things he accomplished, and the jobs he had, but it was his father’s last words that he would never forget. In the end, his father said, “All that matters is my family and my faith”.

As I read the story I couldn’t help but put myself in the dying man’s place. Whether we live till 90 or not, life is short and eventually, we will all be in that place. My challenge is living every day with my focus on the things that matter the most, and I can’t think of a greater focus in life than relationships. Whether it’s encouraging a child, celebrating a parent, or having a meaningful conversation with those you work with. At the end of the day, there is nothing more important than relationships.
